Run Around - Tom Saywer Island

I remember a trip in 2000 or 2001 with a couple of my college friends (Hi Ruth!) heading on the ferry over to Tom Sawyer Island.

I didn't get it.

My memories of the Island revolve around the ferry getting stuck and taking forever to get back - and time was of the essence for our day trips.

I've heard over the years that Tom Sawyers Island is a great place for the little ones to run around, so I've been meaning to get there on the past couple of trips.  This trip, we made sure to spend some time over there!

We took the Mike Fink Keel Boats from Frontierland over to the island and basically just followed Noah wherever he wanted to go.

He loved the barrel bridge, then found a fun playground

The island is full of different areas for the kids to run around - one of Noah's favorite places to play was Fort Langhorn (get it? Like Samuel Langhorne Clemens/Mark Twain).

We must have spent at least 30 minutes running around and exploring (and by we, I really mean my husband and Noah).  There were different rooms with lookouts and rifles (and for Noah who isn't allowed to play with guns, he loved it), a working barn with animatronic horses and farmers, and so much more.  There was even a great place to sit and play checkers!

We had so much fun -  my fun was watching Noah enjoy the island and all it's fun  If you're only spending one day in the Magic Kingdom and it's your first trip, maybe this isn't the place for you, but if you're not in a hurry, it's a great place to spend some time.

Another perk, it's a wonderful location for taking pictures!

Do you spend much time on Tom Sawyer Island?

  1. oh, Tom Sawyer Island! I think that may have been the last time I went... unless I dragged some students their on one of our band trips.

And I've reinvented days trips... now the goal is all 4 parks in one day! It can be done!
