Disneyland - Airport Options

Disneyland Travel Woahs

Has anyone else looked into a Disneyland Resort vacation only to say "woah - where do I fly into, how do I get from the airport to the hotel, and how do I get around?"

As a Walt Disney World veteran, I've never had to think about which airport to go to or how to get from point A to point B.  As the #1 tourist destination in the country, WDW has taken care of all those steps for us with Disney's Magical Express and being located only nearby 1 major airport (yes, there are other options, but with MCO so close by, there is rarely a reason to look elsewhere).

Airport Options

There are 4 airports in close proximity to Disneyland:
  1. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - 32 miles
  2. Orange County's John Wayne Airport (SNA) - 14 miles
  3. LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) - 34 miles
  4. Long Beach Airport (LGB) - 22 miles
LAX is the largest with the most flights from carriers.
John Wayne is the closest.
All 4 have fairly simple directions to the parks, but 34 miles in LA traffic might take much longer than 34 minutes!

Transportation Options

As with all airports, you'll have plenty of taxi options, but with Disneyland you have a few more options:

 1. The Disneyland Resort Express, operated by Grayline/Coach U.S.A.

Unlike Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Express is not included.  But, it does drop off at a number of the Good Neighbor Hotels.  Cost is $48 (at time of this post) per round trip adult and up to 3 children are free per paying adult.

2. Super Shuttle -

Just like with any airport around, you can schedule a Super Shuttle pick up or drop off.  Van Shuttle transportation available one-way or round-trip to and from the airport. Holds up to 7 passengers. Reservations required 24-hours in advance from day of arrival. Please call (800) 200-6655 or visit www.supershuttle.com.

Approx. $17/per person

3. Limo Service by Best Transportation

Ride in a 6- or 8-passenger private limousine by one-way or round-trip transfers. Arrival/Departure Flight information is required when making a reservation. Contact Best Limousine at 1-800-827-7411 once departing the plane for airport pick-up instructions

4. Taxi by Yellow Cab

Anaheim: Orange County Airport and Amtrak to/from the Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Resort Good Neighbor Hotels.
San Diego: San Diego Amtrak to/from San Diego Hotels.
Up to 4 or 7 Passengers:
Prices vary - Estimate fare: $88

  1. The two times I have been to DLR we used the Super Shuttle. The only problem was one ride going to the hotel . . . the guy didn't know how to get to the hotel! Not that hard, the hotel was right in front of DLR. Sheesh.

  2. Jenn- boy, do I wish that I had read this before my first trip to Disneyland! We've been so spoiled by the transportation options to and from MCO, that sitting in a not-so-magical bus, (with the local traffic report blaring on the radio), took some wind from our sails. Great overview here!!

For my first non-high-school-band-bus trip to Disneyland last summer I flew into John Wayne and used the Super Shuttle to get to the Anabella. It was perfect! Super affordable, fast and efficient! Plus, the van was perfectly clean and the driver very friendly.
